Install your CounterNest counter
- Create a counter and choose its colours.
- Copy the script from your counter’s management page.
- Paste it before the closing body tag in your website template, on every page you want to track.
- Open your website, then open the counter’s Online report.
No website URL is required when creating a counter. To restrict a counter, add allowed hostnames in its settings. Include both the www and non-www hostnames if you use both.
Understanding online visitors
A visitor is considered online after activity within the last two minutes. A visible page sends an update every 30 seconds. Repeat updates do not add page views. Browser storage, blocked scripts and network conditions can affect measurement.
Privacy
Reports use pseudonymous browser identifiers. Raw IP addresses are not stored in visit records. URL query strings are removed; named campaign parameters are collected separately. Keep personal information out of page titles and campaign labels. You are responsible for providing an appropriate privacy notice on your website.
Monitoring
Uptime checks run at scheduled intervals and confirm downtime after two consecutive failures. Reputation checks require an enabled provider. Unknown and failed checks are displayed explicitly. Email alerts require email confirmation.
